Technology And The Internet As Part of the National Agenda
The ChannelDollars space has been purposely kept neutral when it comes to politics and that trend will continue. However, it’s vital to understand issues & challenges posed by the most powerful and fundamental new tools of our lifetime, which are evolving literally right in front our faces.
With all the new advances in ecommerce and the internet in general, there are vital considerations in how these advances will evolve including issues on open access, free use and speech, guarding content for young users, and creating visibility, all the while maintaining fundamental rights to privacy.
You will find a link below for a white paper put forward by President Barack Obama’s plan for technology. There are 2 monumental pieces here:
1) Ensuring that the internet is truly open and not restricted as some communication and utility companies wish to make it. Essentially, this means no borders or tariffs in the digital world.
2) In representative democracy we elect officials to make decisions for us, because it was not possible in the past for the population to travel to the capital and take part. New technology means the potential for a NEW democracy – complete empowerment and participation for all. Literally all citizens can take part in each decision as much as they will allow themselves to. The early founders of the United States put forth a great energy to take part in all levels of government, and indeed felt the responsibility to do so. Hopefully by now, all of us know what happens when no one is ‘minding the shop’.
Please take moment and to read the following, and grow in the capacity to influence and shape the government which is so vital to each one of us.
