Shopzilla Affiliate Program

A recent article in InternetRetailer pointed out Shopzilla will be rolling out a older style of advertising to supplement and compliment their comparison engine model.

Shopzilla will be testing an affiliate program to drive traffic to their site, and ultimately to retailer’s sites.

For affiliates, and consumers alike, is a unique twist that allows product specific content to be displayed as part of the affiliate link. This way instead of a potential buyer clicking on a vague banner, instead a specific product will be displayed with text detailing the product or product features. For affiliates, this is also an interesting idea as there will be no commission based sales, but instead affiliates will be paid per click. Some would suggest this could be a risky idea with the threat of fraud. However, Shopzilla is essentially putting its money where its mouth is by saying that click fraud will not be a problem for just like fraud is not a problem for Shopzilla advertisers.

Expectations are for the program to come out of beta testing in the following months. Also reported to be part of the package would be a options to include advertising in an RSS feed. Obviously targeted at the blogging crowd, as well as other content driven sites, this should be an interesting twist on existing models.

If you are interested in registering for beta testing, swing by Shopzilla and see if you can get on board:

May have to try this one out for myself…
